Course Overview

The UAL Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance has been designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress into higher education or conservatoire training. This training year will provide students with an opportunity to stretch and refine their practical skills whist defining their own personal interests and area of expertise.

This is the ideal gap year course for sixth form/college leavers who just need that extra year and is fully funded if you are 18 at the point of enrolment. The course is available to all however, through Advanced Learner Loans.

Entry Requirements

Specific entry requirements: A minimum of 2 A Levels or a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in a related subject plus a successful audition.

Course information

Regular classes in acting, voice and movement will sit alongside regular opportunities to rehearse and perform full scale public productions of the highest possible standard at a professional theatre venue.

Classes in health and wellbeing will support you with the physical and mental demands of the industry.

Theatre history in context will build on previous knowledge by exploring a range of writers, practitioners, styles and periods and regular classes in audition techique and practice will ensure you are fully prepared for drama school/university/industry auditions.

1 Year

In class, face to face.

You will be assessed through practical projects supported by research. You’ll study 3 units over the year with your final major project determining your overall grade of pass merit or distinction.

Level 4 UAL Professional Diploma in Performance

You will work on one large scale production every term, staged at a professional venue. Trips ot the theatre and access to guest speakers from the industry are an integral part of this course.

The course is designed to prepare you for your next step to university or drama school or straight in to industry. Previous students have gained places in institutions such as the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Leeds Conservatoire and Rose Bruford.

Level 4

During each year there are opportunities to see live performance work given by other students and also professional work in local and London venues. Costs of these activities vary from year to year.
