Learning Support

Unlocking your potential and supporting your success is central to what we do. If there are any areas in which you need extra support, our team of specialist staff will work with you to identify appropriate strategies and access arrangements.

What support can I access?

We are committed to supporting all our learners and have put together a suite of support services that will help you during your time at Sixth Form. If you have additional needs, speak with our Learning Support manager to ensure you get the help you need to succeed. If you have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) you may be entitled to in class, 1:1 or group support.

In Class

Some classes have a Specialist Learning Coach in the classroom during teaching. They identify who they need to support and they can help you by:

  • assisting with literacy and numeracy content in your course
  • re-explaining concepts taught by the tutor
  • checking you have understood tasks and instructions

Small Groups or 1:1

We can provide support outside the classroom in either smaller groups or as one-to-one sessions. These could be one off or regular sessions depending on what you need at the time. The sessions could cover:

  • literacy
  • numeracy
  • use of assistive technology
  • mentoring for students with EHCPs

Exam Access Arrangements

If you have a specific need you may be entitled to Exam Access Arrangements. These arrangements allow learners with special educational needs, disabilities or temporary injuries to access their assessment without changing the demands of the assessment. You may need to undergo a screening assessment to formally apply for your Access Arrangements to the awarding body for your course.

Support for Students with Disabilities and Additional Learning Needs

We want to ensure that learners with disabilities and/or additional learning needs are fully supported in applying to the college. We can help with arrangements for course interviews, individual college visits to support with transition, details about access and specialist support within the classroom and around college. For more information on the assistance available and how to access it, please call us on 01753 793000 or email learning.support@windsor-forest.ac.uk

Personal Tutoring

Your personal tutor will provide support and guidance, keep a check on your attendance, behaviour and academic performance to make sure you are successful. You will have a weekly group discussions on topics such as personal finance, independent living and current affairs. You will also have regular 1:1 sessions to review your progress and set targets.

Our Learning Centre team also offer a range of study skills support that is available either on a one to one or group basis. The team can help you with planning, essay writing, revision techniques, referencing and much more. Sessions will be advertised via Google Classroom and your personal tutor.
