Strode’s offers a diverse range of opportunities for students interested in the Performing and Creative Arts both within and outside the curriculum.
Facilities include 2 Drama Studios, a Music Suite with a digital recording studio, 4 Art studios includinga Textiles facility, a Photography dark room and studio, A Design studio and workshop, a Dance studio and digitalised computer rooms for Media and Film.
Students can choose to follow either A Level or BTEC programmes of study specialising in Performing Arts (Acting & Dance), Drama, Music, Media and Film Studies, Design, Fine Art, Photography and Textiles. In addition to the extensive choice of subjects on offer within the curriculum, there are also numerous opportunities outside the classroom for students to participate in the Performing and Creative Arts.
Music, Dance and Drama performances occur throughout the year offering students the chance to showcase their talents. Strode’s is proud to have established Dance (New Fusion) and Drama (Swish Theatre) companies, the latter of which has performed for several years at the Edinburgh Festival whilst Music students perform at various college events as well as participating in the annual Twinning Concert. Those students who are more artistically inclined are able to exhibit their work at an annual exhibition alongside numerous opportunities to enter competitions such as the alTURNERtive Art prize. Students who prefer Film and Media as their art form present their work each year as part of the annual Henry’s Awards and are, like other students within the Performing and Creative Arts, encouraged to participate in a range of events to support their studies and interests.
