Success in Senior Maths Challenge

Success in Senior Maths Challenge

Congratulations to Strode’s students Kasia Jazeel and John Durrans who took part in the United Kingdom Maths Trust (UKMT) Senior Maths Challenge and were both top performers, recently presented with ‘Best in Year’ certificates.

Kasia Jazeel (Ex-Waldegrave Girls' School) AS Further Maths student, scored an excellent 81/125, earning her the "Best in Year 12" certificate.

John Durrans (Ex-St Paul's Catholic College) A2 Further Maths student, scored an outstanding 86/125, earning not only "Best in Year 13" and "Best in School", but John also qualified for the next round, the Senior Kangaroo Challenge.
This achievement is exceptional, with only the top 2000 students in the UK invited to apply based on their performance at the Senior Challenge. John sat the Kangaroo Challenge in early December, with the results available in early January 2013.

The Senior Challenge is aimed at all 16-19 year olds studying mathematics, it involves answering 25 multiple choice questions in 90 minutes and is sat in school/college under examination conditions.

Principal Anne Fielding Smith commended both students on their outstanding achievements and said ‘this is a great testimony to John and Kasia’s hard work and to the positive impact of the teaching by both their current teachers and teachers from their previous schools’.
