Strode’s Student Selected for National Youth Theatre
First year student Vinny Coyle has been offered a place with the National Youth Theatre. He has been selected from 4,600 applicants from all over the UK. The letter to Principal Anne Fielding Smith from Paul Roseby, the NYT’s CEO and Artistic Director, describes Vinny’s ‘enormous achievement’ and explains how the NYT ‘discovers, inspires and trains diverse young talent from the whole of the UK’.
Following an audition process, Vinny, 17, is one of 500 accepted onto the 2012 programme and will remain a member until he is 21. He will initially participate in 2 week course in the summer at Rose Bruford College in Sidcup.
All members of the NYT need to fund themselves and Vinny needs to raise £1500. To this end, he is seeking sponsorship and also plans to raise money by singing, car cleaning, cake sales etc.
Vinny joined Strode’s last September from Brackenhale School in Bracknell, where he lives. He is studying for a BTEC Diploma in Performing Arts and A level PE.
Vinny is eulogistic about how Strode’s Drama Department have developed his skills this year. ‘Dominique Neville (Head of Drama) believed I had the potential and pushed me to my acting limits allowing me to take any acting challenge’.
He is now looking forward to following in the footsteps of the many famous alumni of the NYT and working with some of them such as Daniel Craig, Helen Mirren and Pixie Lott
