Outstanding results at Strode’s College

Strode’s College students and staff are once again celebrating another year of outstanding A Level and BTEC results today.

Our A Level pass rate was sustained at 98% and we achieved 100% success in 27 A Level subjects and all of our BTEC courses. Over 40% of our A Level outcomes were high grades and over 70% of outcomes were A*- C grades. We were delighted that over 130 students achieved A* / A grades in a wide range of subjects and that 77% of all A Level subjects achieved above the Sixth Form College benchmark. All of our BTEC Level 3 programmes in Years 1 and 2 achieved 100% pass rate, with 70% of our Year 2 entries achieving a Distinction or above. Alongside this our Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) has again proved to be very successful with a 100% pass rate.

In a number of A Level subjects the results are outstanding.  Art and Design (Fine Art) had an impressing 100% pass rate with 84% of students achieving A* - C, Art and Design (Textiles) celebrated with 100% pass rate and an impressive 100% A* - C, while 100% of Communication and Culture students passed with 95% gaining A* - C, Economics students achieved  an impressive 94%  A* - C grades, French gained 100% pass rate and 85% A* - C, History (Modern) had 100% pass and an remarkable 98% achieving A * - C, Mathematics gained both 100% pass rate and 100% in grades A* - C and Media Studies achieved 100% pass rate and 96% of all students achieving A* - C.  

These high levels of achievement ensure that Strode’s students can proceed along their chosen pathway to positive career and Higher Education destinations.

Congratulations to our highest performer Thomas Banks (ex-The Jubilee High School) who achieved three A* and one A. The following students achieved three or more A* or A grades in all of their A Level subjects: Max Bowman (ex-The Magna Carta School), Ali Ghachem (ex-The Matthew Arnold School), Bethany Hearn (ex-Jubilee High School), Owen Schauerman (ex-Sunbury Manor), Grace Dance (ex-The Magna Carta School), Amber Aftab (ex-The Matthew Arnold School), Max Porter (ex-The Magna Carta School), Natan Szczepaniak (ex-Sunbury Manor), Cerys Halligan (ex-The Magna Carta School) and Rachael Cooper (ex-The Magna Carta School).  Out of all our highest achievers 100% came from our partner schools.

Over 270 students at Strode’s College chose to study BTEC courses and the College is delighted with its continued 100% pass rate and an impressive 70% of students achieving Distinction grades or above which are equivalent to A / A* at A Level.

Congratulations to our highest achievers Michael Hearn (ex-The Matthew Arnold School), Ellice Leslie (ex-The Bishop Wand Church of England School), Rhys Joel (ex-The Bishop Wand Church of England School), James Rigden (ex-The Magna Carta School), Stephen Browne (ex-Orleans Park School), Ami Leney (ex-The Magna Carta School), Jack Butler (ex-The Magna Carta School) and Millie Jones (ex-The Magna Carta School) who achieved Triple Distinction *.  Alongside this, 31 students achieved Double Distinction*.

Principal, Rowan Cookson said, “I am delighted with another year of fantastic results and excellent student achievements which supports the Ofsted Good with Outstanding features grade, which was achieved in December 2016.

We are a specialist sixth form college provider which offers an extensive range of courses where most subject combinations are possible. Our team of staff, who are experts in teaching 16 to 19 year olds, build individual study programmes for each student and this combination when coupled with the hard work of our students and the dedicated support of their parents leads to these amazing results and students who truly fulfil their potential.

Congratulations to all our students; I wish them the very best for the future, whether they are progressing to university, an apprenticeship or directly into employment.”

Max Bowman, who was formerly from The Magna Carta School, achieved A*, A*, A* in  A Level Maths, Further Maths and Physics and is going on to read Engineering at Oxford University, commented, “I have had a brilliant time at Strode’s.  Strode’s created a great atmosphere to learning in and I have done incredibly well here.”

Ali Ghachem, who was formerly from The Matthew Arnold School, achieved A*, A*, A* in A Level Computing, Maths and Further Maths is going to Imperial College, London to study Computer Science, commented, “I thank everyone at Strode’s – particularly my brilliant teachers.   I am now leaving with everything I ever wanted.”

Cerys Halligan, who was formerly from The Magna Carta School, achieved A*, A, A in English Literature, History (Modern) and Maths (Statistics) is going on to Oxford to read Politics, Philosophy and Economics, said “I am delighted with my results, Strode’s was the best decision.  Strode’s gave me the confidence, independence and self-motivation to succeed.  It has been the best time of my life”
