As part of unit 23 ‘Organising a
Sports Event’ our 2nd year BTEC Sport Extended Diploma Students
organised and hosted a triumphant afternoon of sport last week.
Eight local Colleges from Surrey,
Berkshire and Middlesex were invited to take part in men’s and women’s
football, netball and rugby.
As the rain held off and the games got underway the sporting atmosphere
was electric. The students led, scored,
refereed and played in a “round robin” style tournament where each match lasted
10 minutes and points were allocated to the winning team. A trophy was presented to the College who won
the most points in each sport at the end of the competition. Winners on the day were:
Rugby: Strode’s College
Netball: Godalming College
Men’s Football: Uxbridge College
Women’s Football: John Ruskin College
The event has allowed Strode’s students to develop the knowledge,
skills and qualities required to successfully plan, promote and lead a sporting
event with a target of breaking even financially. Unbelievably the student organisers made a
profit of £50.00 after paying for referees, trophies and refreshments. The students have decided to put this well-deserved
money towards some new sports equipment for the College.
Our students definitely showed maturity and team work by planning a
successful and competitive afternoon of sport.
Well done Team Strode’s
