Over 300 students and their parents attended our latest Higher Education evening and Information Fair on Wednesday 27 April, which was a huge success.
The event provided students with an excellent opportunity to meet university representatives, higher education organisations and Gap Year companies to answer their questions and provide useful insights about degree programmes, facilities, student finance and university life in general.
The evening was supported by over 70 Universities, Higher Education organisations and Gap Year companies including Exeter University, Student Finance and British Exploring Society, who spent the evening talking to parents, staff and students about the options available to them after their time at Strode’s College.
A key part of the event was the opportunity for the attendees to listen to interesting and thought provoking presentations about ‘all you need to know about applying to Higher Education’, ‘student finance’ and ‘applying to competitive universities’.
In addition, students and parents could also take the opportunity to speak in a relaxed atmosphere to our Careers department and members of the Senior Leadership Team or go along to the performing arts progression route sessions.
We had fantastic feedback from everyone especially about the unique nature of having both students and parents together which helps ensure a consistent message. One year 12 parent commented, “I wanted to write and let you know what a fantastically informative event the Higher Education Fair was. It was so impressive how many education providers were available to talk to. Everyone was extremely helpful and I think Kate was able to glean an awful lot of information which will help her decision making.
Kate wants to move away from home and has mentioned Edinburgh, Bristol and Bath, as potential universities she will be considering. We were amazed that Edinburgh was there; it was really useful to hear which of those universities would accept Kate, if she got the required grades, on the basis of the current subjects she is studying. This information isn't always clear when you look online.
Thank you for organising such an informative event.
