Students from Strode’s Eco Committee decided to raise awareness of International Earth Day this week, by starting a student debate and discussing whether the government should do more for the environment now that we are in the process of leaving the EU. 78% of the student audience voted YES.
They also held an earth day cake sale raising awareness of green living with a prize awarded to Eleanor Cove for using the most ‘Earth Friendly’ ingredients, making sure they were all Fairtrade.
Students and staff also got the opportunity make personal pledges on how they were going to make small changes to their daily life and care for the planet, in return they were given a broad bean seed to plant at home, to promote home grown living and reduce food miles.
Overall the students raised just over £64.00 and gained 25 ‘seed pledges’.
All proceeds made from our Earth Day event this year will be going to the SWLEN charity which supports the environment around south west London.
Well done guys on the first successful Earth Day celebrations.
