On Friday 11th March the famous broadcaster Johnny Ball came to talk to our 1st year Maths students. Johnny, who has been popularising maths and science for more than three decades, delivered a passionate math’s master class.
Initially, Johnny explains how, after only achieving 2 O’Levels at school, he turned to maths, which opened up a whole new world of opportunities and enabled him to develop such a varied career. He was a regular fixture on children's television in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s, presenting several series of popular science and technology programmes including Think of a Number; Think Again; Think Backwards; Think...This Way and Johnny Ball Reveals All.
Johnny presented mathematical technologies and principles to our students in an entertaining and accessible way by highlighting the history of mathematics, he showed them that everyone is capable of genius, just like Archimedes, Galileo, Kepler, Descartes or Newton - it is all a question of determination.
