National Theatre Connections programme:
Currently about to embark on its 21st year, the National Theatre Connections programme gives young people experience of professional theatre-making. Their experience mirrors that of a company producing a new play in any theatre in the country. They create marketing campaigns, design sets and costumes, operate lighting and sound boards, stage-manage their home performances. Each company has the experience of performing in a leading regional theatre, at one of the Connections festivals around the country in 2016.
This year, two students Ollie Bowell and Charlie Hester (along with the encouragement of Head of Department, Marc Dodi), have been given the task of directing ‘It Snows’, written by Bryony Lavery and Frantic Assembly. A whimsical; highly physical; heart, toe and finger-warming play for young and old alike that celebrates the joy of a Snow day, where everything changes; well – at least for just one day!
Friday 2nd October – Sunday 4th October Marc, Ollie and Charlie attended the Director’s Weekend at the National Theatre, where they got to experience numerous workshops delivered by industry professionals, and spent with the writers and original directors of the play ‘It Snows’. All three cannot wait to start the project, and are currently hard at work brainstorming ideas! Watch this space to hear where our Partner Theatre will be this year...
