Staircase to Success
Huge congratulations go to Strode’s College ex-student Luke Thomas for winning the 18-25 age group “Wicked Young Writers Award 2015.”
The Wicked Young Writers' Award was created by the long-running West End musical Wicked in order to inspire young people to use their writing to look at life a little differently. In its 5th year, the Award recognises excellence in writing and helps develop writing talent in young people between 5-25 years old.
Luke discovered the competition a couple of years ago whilst booking Wicked tickets where he read an advertisement on the home page and decided to enter the following year. To enter Luke created a 750 word story titled “The Starlight Staircase”. Luke’s story was one of only 10 shortlisted and he received the fantastic news that he was the winner within his age group at the awards ceremony in London. Luke commented that, “This competition has really boosted my confidence in my writing. I'm going to be writing a lot more now and hopefully get some pieces published in the future.”
Luke left Strode’s in 2013 and is currently studying for a degree in Animation at Ravensbourne College of Media and Communication. After University Luke is hoping to get an internship with a visual effects company in London and longer term wants to work on big budget films and TV shows.
We are all very proud of Luke and the fact that all of his hard work is now paying off, and cannot wait to read more of his stories.
