Over 400 students and their parents attended our first ever Higher Education evening and Information Fair on Thursday 11 March, which was a fantastic success. The event provided students with an excellent opportunity to meet university representatives, higher education organisations and Gap Year companies to answer their questions and provide useful insights about degree programmes, facilities, student finance and university life in general.
The evening was supported by over 50 Universities, Higher Education organisations and Gap Year companies including University of Bath, Student Finance and Frontier, who spent the evening talking to parents, staff and students about the options available to them after their time at Strode’s College.
A key part of the event was the opportunity for the attendees to listen to three interesting and thought provoking presentations about UCAS and the application process from our guest speakers Amanda Hargraves (University of Surrey) and Hannah Dunlop (University of East Anglia).
In addition, students and parents could also take the opportunity to speak in a relaxed atmosphere to our Careers department and members of the Senior Leadership Team or go along to a drop in 1-1 session about progression on to Dance and Drama schools.
We had fantastic feedback from everyone especially about the unique nature of having both students and parents together which helps ensure a consistent message. One year 12 parent commented, “Thought it was an absolutely marvellous evening, great to have all the universities in one place and we found the talks really useful as well. Our daughter is the eldest so we don’t know much about the university process but now we feel really well informed and ahead of the game thanks to Strode’s.”
Gemma Seabrook our Careers Co-ordinator commented “We were delighted to see so many parents and students at our Higher Education Information Evening and Fair. The sports hall was full of enthusiastic and positive visitors and exhibitors alike which made for a great evening. We hope that this evening has inspired and motivated our students to aspire to higher education and to achieve the very best they can.”
Anne Fielding Smith, Strode’s College Principal commented “The evening was a huge success and feedback from students, parents and exhibitors was really positive. I am delighted that so many people benefitted from this event at Strode’s and would like to thank all the staff who worked so hard to make it happen.”
