Strode’s travelled to Swansea on Wednesday for their national quester final match against Swansea (Gower) College. Despite the long journey and only having 10 players, the mighty Strode’s pulled off a heroic 2-1 victory in very rainy conditions. Being 1-0 down for most of the first half, did not affect Strode’s determination and Ella Smith’s superb free kick on the stroke of half time saw both teams all level after 45 minutes.
Strode’s fought hard in the second period and called upon its strong defence to keep their opponents out as fatigue set in. Charlotte Charlton made some very important saves to keep the Welsh side out. The game was looking to go to extra time and penalties when with 2 minutes 2 spare Striker Lucy Cook went on a solo run, cutting through the defence, to slot in at a very tight angle. The game ended with a 2-1 victory for Strode’s and will now go into the draw for the National semi Final.
