Over 200 students and their parents attended Strode’s inaugral Alternative to Higher Education Information Evening, on Thursday 13 November, which helped to make the event a great success.
A wide range of exhibitors including British Airways, National Physics Laboratory, IBM and Waitrose spent the evening talking to parents, staff and students about the alternative options available to them post-College, from apprenticeships to debt-free education. A large number of the companies employed former Strode’s students who were thrilled with the opportunity to come along and represent their company and also to talk to our current students about their own experiences.
The attendees were also given the opportunity to hear two fascinating and thought provoking presentations from our guest speakers, Sue Taylor from ALPS Partnership Ltd, and Amy Francis from Reed Exhibitions. Amy is also a former Strode’s College Student.
Sue spoke about ALPS Partnership Limited (ALPS), a not-for-profit company dedicated to supporting learning providers, and to help people to achieve their full potential in the field of work based learning.
Our other guest speaker, Amy, spoke about her unique journey from leaving Strode’s College in 2007 when, as part of her plans to fund a gap year prior to Higher Education, she took a temporary job in the post room at Reed Exhibitions. Amy never did make it to Higher Education, instead she progressed through the ranks at Reeds Exhibitions, where she has recently been promoted to sales manager.
We have had fantastic feedback from attendees such as Julie Gregson who commented “absolutely fantastic, so impressive! What a great opportunity for people planning to go directly into employment - every business was covered from Accountancy, Business, IT and Retail”
Anne Fielding Smith, Strode’s College Principal commented “The College was buzzing, feedback from parents, students and exhibitors were all really positive, we will certainly be doing this again next year!”
