Recently, our AS Fine Art students visited the Anselm Kiefer exhibition being held at the Royal Academy.
Anselm Kiefer was born in 1945 in Germany as the country emerged from warfare. Throughout his childhood the constant disguise and silence about the war intrigued him and clearly stayed with him to adulthood, as throughout the exhibition they students saw this presence emerge in his artwork. The exhibition selected work from his early watercolours up until a sculpture produced in 2014 specifically for the show.
As our students worked through the eleven rooms they were able to view the development and expanse into more unusual and diverse materials.
This trip was a hugely powerful show that was thoroughly recommended by all.
