Last Wednesday afternoon, as part of their written exam AS Drama and Theatre Studies visited The Bush Theatre London, to watch the premiere of Chris Thompson’s latest production “Albion”.
An incredibly provocative and powerful right-wing play about a fictional extremist group, the English Protection Army. This is led by Steve John, whose activism turns to anger after a relative’s abuse is ignored and his soldier sister Poppy dies while serving in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, his younger brother Jayson seems to be sleeping with the enemy as he hooks up with Aashir, a middle-classed British Asian man.
Cleverly staged and well executed, it has certainly has given the students lots of material to discuss, dissect and digest over the coming months.
