On Monday 10th October Strode’s Dance department hosted 2 workshops delivered by Candoco a contemporary dance company of disabled and non-disabled dancers.
Students explored a variety of different contemporary dance and contact work techniques alongside developing new and innovative choreography based on the company work “and who shall go to the ball”. The workshops provided an opportunity for students to explore repertoire by the company whilst developing an understanding of dance performance and choreography for a cast of disabled and non-disabled dancers.
The students said:
Working with Candoco was really inspiring and interesting as we explored contemporary dance through a different format. The experience of working with this group was helpful in providing an insight into working with a professional dance company. We liked the fact we used basic dance movements to make a piece look innovative and complex. Watching the piece of repertoire (which we later learnt) was interesting as it allowed us to see how you integrate disabled and non-disabled dancers in one piece and how they adapted to the needs of each other.
