This was a keenly fought match between two very competitive sides. Strode’s were under pressure from the off, with Godalming running at the heart of the Strode’s defence. However strong tackling by Barnaby Hayward led to turnover ball on the Strode’s 5m line. Ellis McCausland-Swan and Sadiq Adebyi led a break out of defence and from the ensuing ruck, Sadiq brushed aside a number of tackles to go over in the corner for the first try.
Godalming came back almost immediately, with a breakaway down the right wing that led to a front row forward being matched up against the Strode’s winger. The Godalming player got the best of the contact and went over for a try in the corner. This was converted to put Godalming ahead.
Strode’s managed to get back in front from two penalties but with half time looming a number of errors from Strode’s led to yet another converted try for Godalming, against the run of play.
The second half saw Strode’s have more possession in the Godalming half, without managing to convert this into points. Then with 13 minutes to go Strode’s eventually went over for the winning try.
An excellent game to watch and played in tremendous spirit from both sides.
