Each student has a Personal Tutor with whom they meet twice weekly in small groups. Students are helped to settle in quickly and our emphasis on the care and support for the individual student means that academic achievement and personal happiness go hand in hand. The Personal Tutor is the first point of contact with parents/carers who are invited to meet their student's PT in the first half-term so 'a face can go with the name'. This also gives parents the opportunity to ask any questions at the beginning of their son or daughter's time with us.
The PTs run a varied weekly programme of supoport activities, initially to help students settle in quickly and then on a variety of topics from study skills to university application.
They also compile the reports that are sent home. In addition to formal reports, progress in each subject is monitored via Individual Learning Plans that set clear targets and means to achieve them and are regularly reviewed by teachers and Personal Tutors.
Learning support facilities are outstanding. In addition to our dedicated team of Learning Support Tutors in the Student Centre, subject areas have course related facilities while our excellent Library/Learning Centre and computer suites offer the latest learning resources.
