Mentoring at Strode's aims to support and encourage students to manage their own learning and maximise their potential.
The Student Mentoring Project 2011 is a College-wide mentoring process whereby identified first year students are mentored by an experienced second year student, matched by subject area and where possible, gender. The mentor signs a contract agreeing to meet with their mentee once a week within College to provide support, preparing and making a record of the meeting using the Personal Development Plan for their portfolios. Additional contact is provided via e-Mentoring using the College email system.
Every Mentor who successfully completes the training will receive a 'Mentor badge' that will establish their important role. In addition, by wearing it they will be recognizable to College staff and will be able to more readily make use of the facilities such as the Library or empty classrooms in fulfillment of this role.
At the conclusion of the scheme in summer 2012, each successful Mentor will have their hard work recognised by the awarding body Vinspired, receiving a Vfifty award. In terms of a student applying to University and looking to enhance their Personal Statement, there are undeniable benefits.
