Strode’s started off the new academic year on a celebratory note when former students returned to the College to receive recognition for their effort and achievements at our annual Prize Giving Ceremony. While waiting for everyone to be seated, the audience were kept entertained by our very own talented student musicians who performed a variety of musical pieces.

Strode’s Principal Rowan Cookson opened the ceremony by welcoming former students and a number of special guests for the evening, including the Deputy Mayoress of Runnymede and her Consort, the Master and Wardens of the Worshipful Company of Coopers and the College's Trustees and Governors.

Guest Speaker for the evening was Fraser Doherty MBE. Fraser set up SuperJam at the age of 14 using his Gran's jam recipes. After selling his product door to door in the neighbourhood, he went on to sell his range of 100% fruit jams through thousands of supermarkets around the world. Selling millions of jars along the way and winning numerous awards.

38 prizes were presented on the night with the most prestigious prizes being the Henry Strode Prize and the Tercentenary Higher Education Bursary. Both of these awards are given to the student who achieves the best overall results in the College. This year the prizes were awarded to Thomas Banks who achieved 540 UCAS points. Thomas, who previously attended Jubilee High School, achieved two A* grades in Biology, Chemistry and Maths and an A in Computing Science.

During the evening we also had the pleasure of hearing from one of our award winners, Nicole Barber, who talked about receiving the prestigious Coopers’ Travel Bursary. Nicole embarked on a once in a life time trip to Malaysian Borneo in the state of Sabah with the company Camps International. Nicole’s trip included aspects such as community and environmental project work, cultural activities and a 5-day jungle trek.

Congratulations to all our prize winners and good luck in the next step of your journey
