Last Wednesday Strode’s students Iain Mackay (BTEC L3 Sport) and Andy Horgan (A levels) represented Strode’s College at the South East Golf Championships at South Winchester Golf Course.

Conditions were very tough to start, with both students having to tee off in heavy rain. Impressive scores were still recorded despite the adverse weather, with Andy coming in 6th place with a round of 80 and Iain Mackay in fourth spot, with a round of 79.

This is fantastic news for Iain as he managed to clinch the last qualifying spot for the National Championships in Bath next April. Last year Iain won the South East championship and qualified for Nationals, so he now has the chance to represent again and will be hoping to land a National College’s Title at next year’s event!

Ian hopes to follow in the footsteps of former Strode’s student Paul Casey, who now plays on the US PGA Tour, and achieved a World Ranking as high as 3 in 2009.
